North Texas Community Foundation announced today that it awarded a record-breaking $47 million in 2024, more than any previous year in the Foundation’s history. Since its inception in 1981, the Foundation and its donors have granted more than $450 million to organizations in North Texas and beyond.

“Our mission has always been to connect donors to the causes they care about most,” Rose Bradshaw, president & CEO of North Texas Community Foundation. “This milestone reflects a deep-seated culture of generosity in our community. As we look ahead, we remain committed to driving positive change and addressing the needs of our region.”

Over the past year, 1,300 organizations received grants supporting programs in a wide range of areas such as education, healthcare, arts and culture, economic development, and environmental conservation.

Among the highlights are:

> In its inaugural year, the Fund for Good granted a total of $500,000 to support transformative community projects. The fund awarded grants to Presbyterian Night Shelter for their Journey Home Housing program, and to Best Place for Kids for their work with the Tarrant County Maternal & Infant Health Coalition.

> $202,250 in funding was awarded to 18 organizations through ToolBox Grants to build the capacity of organizations serving our most vulnerable communities.

> The Conservation and Environment Fund and Animal Fund grant cycles awarded $290,344 to 29 nonprofits. Nonprofits across the Foundation’s 11-county service area were invited to apply.

The Foundation ended 2024 with total assets of $549 million. New donors opened 35 new charitable funds, and the Foundation received gifts totaling $51 million, which will fuel future investment in our community. The Foundation serves a network of more than 330 individuals, families and businesses across its 11-county region.

“This record-breaking achievement is a testament to the generosity of our donors, the dedication of our staff, and the resilience of the nonprofit community. Together, we are making a lasting impact across North Texas,” said Dan McCarthy, board chair of North Texas Community Foundation.

On May 6-7, NTCF CEO Rose Bradshaw was among 17 Community Foundation CEOs from across the country invited to testify before the U.S. Treasury regarding proposed regulations that if enacted would have a negative impact on local charitable giving. Each member of the delegation individually testified before Treasury (day one of the hearing lasted 6.5 hours!) and met with 11 members of congress and 22 congressional staffers.

The effort was bolstered by a bipartisan letter submitted by 33 members of the Ways and Means Committee (21R, 12D) to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen expressing concerns with the broad nature of the regulations and asks regulators to consider the end-use charities when crafting final regulations.

Recent comments for Administration officials signal the sector’s efforts to address the concerns raised with the proposed rules may be working. Treasury official Amber MacKenzie said the set of public comments the rule received was “one of the best I’ve read in my career,” adding they were greatly appreciated.

Our thanks to NTCF’s outstanding legal counsel, Darren Moore, shareholder at Bourland Wall & Wenzel, for drafting a joint response to the regulations on behalf of 36 community foundations across the state of Texas. The statement beautifully captured the collective impact of our fundholders’ generosity and the negative impact the proposed regs would have on philanthropy in Texas. Collectively, our Donor Advised Funds distributed more than $400MM in 2023!

What Does a Community Foundation Do?

A community foundation is a grantmaking public charity that serves donors who share a common interest — improving the quality of life in their geographic region and beyond. Individuals, families and businesses establish charitable funds to support the causes and organizations they care about most.

How Do Community Foundations Work?

We make a local impact:
Community foundations harness the power of charitable giving to make a difference in the communities they serve. North Texas Community Foundation works with local donors and leaders to proactively respond to the needs of our region. Last year, the Foundation and our donors distributed more than $44 million in grants.

We provide flexible giving options:
North Texas Community Foundation offers several types of funds to help donors achieve their charitable goals and meet community needs. Additionally, a wide range of financial assets can be accepted as donation. Our flexibility allows donors to maximize tax-saving benefits while supporting their favorite charities.

We are resourceful conveners:
Beyond grantmaking, community foundations play important roles as community leaders. From creating partnerships during times of crises to supporting new initiatives like the Tarrant To & Through Partnership, North Texas Community Foundation’s team is dedicated to finding innovative and effective solutions for our region’s most challenging problems.

We look to the future:
Our donors are invested in the future of our community. Through our Legacy Society, we help donors invest in their favorite causes and charities, beyond their lifetimes. Thanks to their foresight, the Community Foundation is here for good, forever.
